Née en 1978 à Minsk, Alexandra Catiere vit et travaille à
Paris en France.
Après des études en langues modernes et en pédagogie, Alexandra Catiere part pour les États-Unis afin d’intégrer
le programme de photographie à l’International Center of
Photography de New York. Elle travaille ensuite au studio
d’Irving Penn. En 2008, elle s’installe en France et remporte le prix du Festival de la Photographie d’Hyères.
En 2011, elle obtient le prix de la Résidence BMW au musée Nicéphore-Niépce de Chalon-sur-Saône et expose aux Rencontres de la photographie d’Arles.
Depuis, son travail est présenté dans de nombreuses institutions, telles que le Centre National de l’Audiovisuel du Luxembourg, le Photoforum Pasquart de Bienne (Suisse), le Museo di Arte Contemporanea de Rome ou le musée Nicéphore-Niépce de Chalon-sur-Saône. Ses oeuvres font partie de nombreuses collections publiques et privées : la New York Public Library, la Bibliothèque National de France, la Fondation d’entreprise Hermés et la Fondation Neuflize. Elle est lauréate du prix Elysée 2018-2020 et du prix Camera Clara 2024 dédié aux artistes travaillant à la chambre photographique.
Avec une vision singulière qui transcende les cadres géographiques, Alexandra Catiere témoigne d’une quête profonde de l’universel. Originaire de l’ancienne Union soviétique, son itinéraire l’a conduit des États-Unis à la France, où l’intemporalité s’impose comme l’un des aspects majeurs de son travail. Sans jamais se restreindre aux limites du portrait ou de reportage, la photographe transforme l’appareil photo en un prolongement de son empathie pour la nature humaine. Ainsi, elle fait renaître la tradition humaniste : ses images sont celles des sensations, des atmosphères, des fragments de vie suspendue.

Born in 1978 in Minsk, Alexandra Catiere lives and works in Paris, France. After studying modern languages and education, Alexandra Catiere moved to the United States to join the photography programme at the International Center of Photography in New York. She then worked at Irving Penn's studio. In 2008, she moved to France and won the prize at the Festival de la Photographie d'Hyères; in 2011, she was awarded the BMW Residency at the Musée Nicéphore-Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône and exhibited at the Rencontres de la photographie d'Arles.
