Née à Londres en 1990, Holly Mills vit et travaille à Londres.
L’artiste a obtenu une licence en illustration au Camberwell College of Arts (Londres, Royaume-Uni), en 2012, et a terminé en 2018 le programme de troisième cycle Drawing Year à la Royal Drawing School (Londres, Royaume-Uni).
Elle crée des peintures et des dessins tactiles et mixtes qui réagissent viscéralement à la mémoire et à la sensation. Explorant l’interaction insaisissable entre la perception et
l’expérience, Mills tisse des liens entre l’autobiographie
et la fiction, puisant dans ses propres observations,
l’histoire de l’art, le cinéma, les rêves et la poésie les
sources de ses paysages imaginaires.
Holly Mills s’intéresse à l’intemporalité des souvenirs,
à la manière dont leur hiérarchie personnelle oblitère le
temps et peut créer de nouvelles narrations inattendues
lorsqu’elle est réorganisée. Cherchant à explorer les
limites du langage, Mills utilise la répétition à la
fois comme un mantra et comme un acte de démotivation
par la satiété sémantique. Les mondes aquatiques qui se
remplissent de mers agitées, de soleils roses et de nuages
de parole, de temps visible et de pieds qui sortent du
cadre. Les œuvres tentent de capturer l’espace liminaire
entre la reconnaissance et l’étrangeté.

She creates tactile, mixed-media paintings and drawings that respond viscerally to memory and sensation. Exploring the elusive interplay between perception and experience, Mills weaves connections between autobiography and fiction, drawing on her own observations, art history, cinema, dreams, and poetry as sources for her imagined landscapes.
Holly Mills is interested in the timelessness of memory, and in how its personal hierarchy can obliterate time and generate new, unexpected narratives when rearranged. Seeking to explore the limits of language, Mills uses repetition both as a mantra and as an act of demotivation through semantic satiation. Aquatic worlds emerge, filled with restless seas, pink suns and speech clouds, visible time, and feet protruding from the frame. The works attempt to capture the liminal space between recognition and strangeness.
