Jesse Wallace est né en 1991 à Paris. Il vit et travaille à POUSH(Aubervilliers).
Diplômé de l’École Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Reims (DNSEP) en 2016, il développe une pratique à la frontière de la photographie, de la sculpture et de l’installation.
Le travail de Jesse Wallace explore les conditions matérielles de l’image photographique et la manière dont celle-ci peut se déplacer hors de son statut traditionnel de représentation. Partant souvent de photographies documentaires réalisées dans des lieux traversés : paysages, architectures ou fragments d’espace, l’image est ensuite intégrée dans des dispositifs où structures, supports et sources lumineuses participent pleinement à son apparition. La photographie cesse alors d’être une surface autonome pour devenir un objet inscrit dans l’espace.
À travers des procédés tels que le rétro-éclairage, la superposition de couches ou l’exposition prolongée à la lumière solaire, l’image devient le lieu d’une transformation physique. La lumière n’y agit plus seulement comme un moyen de capturer le monde, mais comme une force capable d’altérer la matière du support. Dans certaines pièces, la trajectoire du soleil elle-même s’inscrit dans l’image, transformant la photographie en trace d’un phénomène réel et d’une durée.
Entre document et objet, surface et volume, les œuvres interrogent ce que devient la photographie lorsque ses limites traditionnelles commencent à se déplacer : le cadre, l’instant photographique et la planéité de l’image. L’image y apparaît moins comme la représentation d’un lieu que comme un fragment d’espace où lumière, matière et temps continuent d’agir.
Son travail a été présenté dans plusieurs expositions et institutions, notamment «Paysage incertain» à la Galerie C, Paris (2025); «Quand la chrysalide s’éveille» à la Fondation Brownstone, Paris (2024); «Le paysan, le chercheur et le croyant, Chapitre I et II» à Poush , Aubervilliers (2022); «BorderLine» au Pavillon Vendôme, Paris (2022); «Joie de vivre» à la Galerie Bertrand Grimont, Paris (2021); «Ce qui ne tourne pas, tombe, 70 ans de Jeune Création» à l’Espace Niemeyer, Paris (2020); et lors de l'exposition personnelle «Side by side» à l'atelier d'artistes The left Place, Reims (2022).
Il a également participé à des événements tels que le Salon Approche, Paris (2024) et a exposé dans différents artiste-run space en France.

Jesse Wallace’s work explores the material conditions of the photographic image and how it can move beyond its traditional status as a representation. Often starting with documentary photographs taken in places he has passed through landscapes, architecture, or fragments of spaces, the image is then integrated into installations where structures, supports, and light sources play a full part in its appearance. Photography thus ceases to be an autonomous surface and becomes an object inscribed within space.
Through processes such as backlighting, the superimposition of layers, or prolonged exposure to sunlight, the image becomes the site of a physical transformation. Light no longer acts merely as a means of capturing the world, but as a force capable of altering the material of the medium. In certain works, the sun’s path itself is inscribed within the image, transforming the photograph into a trace of a real phenomenon and a duration.
Between document and object, surface and volume, the works explore what photography becomes when its traditional boundaries begin to shift: the frame, the photographic moment, and the flatness of the image. The image appears less as a representation of a place than as a fragment of space where light, matter, and time continue to act.
His work has been presented in several exhibitions and institutions, notably “Paysage incertain” at Galerie C, Paris (2025); “Quand la chrysalide s’éveille” at the Brownstone Foundation, Paris (2024); “The Peasant, the Researcher, and the Believer, Chapters I and II” at Poush, Aubervilliers (2022); “BorderLine” at the Pavillon Vendôme, Paris (2022); “Joie de vivre” at Galerie Bertrand Grimont, Paris (2021); “What Doesn’t Turn Falls: 70 Years of Jeune Création” at Espace Niemeyer, Paris (2020); and during the solo exhibition “Side by Side” at the artist studio The Left Place, Reims (2022). He has also participated in events such as the Salon Approche, Paris (2024) and has exhibited in various artist-run spaces in France.
